After having used Polar for a while, we opted to test-drive the Suunto t6 Red Arrow after reviewing all it’s features. You can review everything Suunto has to say about its product on their site, needless to say, the marketing was impressive.
Again, in line with iTrainedToday’s philosophy of not overcomplicating things (but still looking for meaningful value) the Suunto holds a lot of promise. The watch itself is sturdy and resilient. The single-mould look wears well and the material is pretty tough. Swimming, surf-skiiing, boarding, running, gymming (with kettlebells attached) and looking after kids- the watch still lives- strong. The HRM belt has also lasted well despite the way it gets treated
The most useful “stand-out” feature is the training effect. When comparing one session to another, it’s difficult to rate how you actually trained because of the many variables: sleep (or lack of), work stress, diet, knock-on effects from previous sessions… ie. not many constants. The TE gives you a good indication of how hard you just trained today. And if you want, you can record those sessions (in minute detail) using the training manager software that comes with this particular model. Very useful for dissecting your training session on a detailed level. The evidence I often summarize into meaningful information which I then record in iTrainedToday.
Everything else in the watch works as you would expect it too. No surprises there yet still very reliable.
